Former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson has spoken out against Dr Luke, the music producer Kesha alleged raped her.
Clarkson has been unfortunate enough to have worked with Luke in the past and describes him as “not a good person;” and goes on to claim that she was “blackmailed” into working with him by her record label.
Clarkson worked with Luke, real name Lukasz Gottwald, on her 2004 hit ‘Since U Been Gone’ and then again in 2009 when she released ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’.
Fellow pop star Kesha has accused the producer of drugging and raping her 10 years ago, the New York Supreme Court recently denied he request for an exit from her contract.
During an interview with an Australian radio station Clarkson was questioned about her time working with Luke.
“The last time I worked with him I only worked with him because literally I got blackmailed by my label,” she explained. “It was a really hard time for me. They were like, ‘We will not put your album out if you don’t do this’.”
Her statement sounds eerily similar to those made in Kesha’s court filings.
We’ve clashed before. He’s difficult to work with, he’s kind of demeaning,” Clarkson described Luke. “Obviously he’s a talented dude but he’s lied a lot. Musically it’s been really hard for me because he will just lie to people and it makes the artist look bad.”
However, despite her negative opinions of the producer Clarkson affirmed that her experiences with Luke were nothing like that alleged by Kesha, saying that he “never did anything like that [alleged sexual assault] to me”.
