🍚 Did you know that the great wall of China was partially built using a mixture containing sticky rice to bind materials together?

Good morning and welcome to Daily Drop, the Bob Ross of newsletters. We take a beautiful art form and break it down into 5-minute segments to help you learn in an entertaining way.

But we’ll never be able to rock a perm the way he did… look at that thing. It’s perfect.

Here’s what we got on the easel today:

✈️ United launches a new “bug bounty”

If you’re like me, you probably got really confused when you read the title of this email and section.

Like… what the heck is a “bug bounty?”

A bug bounty is when a dastardly insect commits crimes so wicked, that big businesses like United Airlines offer to pay large sums to bring said insect to their court to be held accountable for its actions.

And if it wasn’t clear by now, that is, in fact, not at all what a bug bounty is.

Rather, this refers to United offering compensation to users who report website and app bugs (a.k.a. malfunctions) to them.

Here is the lowdown on how this works:

  • You must be a MileagePlus member (free to sign up) to receive compensation for reporting a bug

  • It must be a new discovery, meaning it cannot be something that has already been reported or something that is already being addressed

  • The program is open to anyone in the world other than countries currently under U.S. sanctions

  • Not open to any current or former United Airlines employees

There are a few other pieces of fine print, which you can find on this page on their website.

But now let’s talk about the good stuff. What is your reward for reporting a bug successfully?

You’ll earn…

One million United miles are worth about $13,000, so this is no joke…

While other big companies like Google have had bug bounties for years, United is the first major travel company to offer this.

Reporting bugs is simple; just email bugbounty@united.com with “Bug Bounty Submission” as the subject line.

Given the ubiquity of annoying bugs on airline and hotel sites, it’s not a long shot to stumble upon one of them.

Make sure you report them when you see them - you might find yourself sitting on a mountain of United miles…

… just make sure you send me my commission after you get them. 😉

🏨 World of Hyatt Bonus Journeys (Feb 2023)

This newsletter is getting a little long, but there’s something I need to tell you about, so I’ll get right to it.

World of Hyatt is offering a sweet promo that could rack you up 45,000 bonus points this Spring. If you’re new to Hyatt, 45k points is a lot.

Here’s how it works:

  • Earn 3,000 points for every two nights you stay

  • Maximum of 30 nights (for a total of 45,000 bonus points)

  • Valid for stays between March 20th and May 26th

  • You must register for the offer by April 20th

  • The promo begins with your second stay

To explain that last point a bit further, your first stay during the promotion period will not count toward the promo.

Hyatt points are generally much more valuable than other hotel points. So while this may not seem very exciting, trust me; it is.

For example, I’m staying at the Alila (a luxury hotel brand) in Kuala Lumpur next month for only 3,500 points per night.

Between the elite nights you get for staying at Hyatt hotels, the points you earn from the stay normally, and the bonus points from this promotion, you could rack up enough points for plenty of nights at hotels all around the world.

Given how valuable Hyatt elite status is, it might be worth rearranging some upcoming stays to invest more in Hyatt.

That’s all for today! I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely ready for Friday!

I need to spend the weekend packing because next week, I’ll be embarking on yet another around-the-world trip, and I’ve got plenty of sweet tips to share with you along the way.

But before then, tell me:

Which bug is most likely to have a bounty on its head?

Please back up your answer with an explanation

Only Email Recipients can participate in polls.

Take care and I’ll see you bright and early tomorrow ❤️
