🇯🇵 Fujikawaguchiko, a town at the foot of the Yoshida Trail to Mount Fuji is putting up an 8-foot net to block a spot where lots of tourists take selfies...yikes! Read more from the story here.
Gooooooooood morning and welcome back to Daily Drop, the newsletter that apparently still thinks it’s 2022 (look at Friday’s newsletter if you don’t get the joke 😉).
Anyway, I’ve got a fun one for you today:
✈️ Flying Blue Promo Rewards (May 2024)
It’s my favorite time of the month again, friends.
I’m talking about the time of the month when Flying Blue (the points program of KLM and Air France) drops their monthly Promo Rewards.
This month includes discounted award flights from a number of North American cities to Europe, including one tiny Canadian city, too. 😉
The routes that most of you will care about are as follows:
Austin to Europe for 15,000 miles (economy)
Los Angeles to Europe for 15,000 miles (economy)
Minneapolis to Europe for 15,000 miles (economy)
Quebec City to Europe for 15,000 miles (economy)
It’s nice to see that Flying Blue is branching out beyond just the major East Coast cities this month.
Flying all the way from cities like Los Angeles to Europe for only 15k miles is a fantastic deal.
Sadly, there aren’t any transfer bonuses to Flying Blue right now… but I wouldn’t let that stop you from taking advantage of these deals.
What’s interesting about this month is that there are also some Promo Rewards that can take you all the way to Beijing, China, from Europe for just 18,750 miles.
This means that you could combine two Promo Rewards and fly to Europe for a week or two, then onwards to China for a grand total of just 33,750 miles.
Considering the distance, that’s an unbeatable deal for flying to China with a makeshift stopover in Europe.
Anyway, here are a couple of pieces of fine print you should know about:
You must book your flights by May 31st to get these prices
Travel can take place through October 31st, 2024
These prices only apply to KLM and Air France flights, not partner awards
Overall, this is a great chance to book summer or fall travel to Europe at incredible rates.
Remember that almost every major bank allows you to transfer points to Flying Blue, so getting miles is easy as long as you have a credit card that earns transferrable points (check out our favorite ones here).
Even if you don’t live in one of the cities offering these prices, you can always book a cheap positioning flight to snag a good deal.
🏔️ How to book a 3-day getaway to Colorado
Imagine you just signed up for this popular credit card (that has an elevated welcome offer of 75,000 UR points right now, btw).
But you’ll actually end up with 79,000 points at the very minimum just from hitting the spend requirement.
Or maybe you already have a stash of UR points that you’re looking to burn…
But… Life is busy, and getting time off is a challenge.
So you think to yourself, “I want an extended weekend getaway—three days of quick, easy, blissful travel.”
Well, dang. Is this the newsletter for you because I’m going to give you a little travel inspo to plan for the perfect 3-day getaway using your shiny new UR points!
Where should you go?
How about Colorado this summer 👇
Why should you go to Colorado?
Scroll up and look at that picture again… that’s why 🙃
Honestly, some of the most beautiful, open landscapes are in places like Aspen, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, and Keystone (just to name a few).
The outdoor recreation is unmatched, so if you’re into hiking, biking, camping, or anything in between… Colorado is your paradise.
How do you get there?
There are many options to get to this corner of the U.S. of A., but here’s just one example.
You could transfer some of your UR points over to United to fly into Denver from dozens of cities around the country 👇
Example route from Chicago to Denver
And with the cash value of this flight being $185, you’re getting a reasonable 2.3 cents per point in value.
Cash price example for same flight above
Assuming you’re taking your partner along for the ride, both of your round-trip flights will cost you 15,600 points per person, or 31,200 points total.
How do you stay there?
One of the most valuable transfer partners for your UR points is Hyatt.
Now many of these more “luxury” locations aren’t cheap… as the name implies. But here’s a beautiful Category 4 Hyatt property for 12,000 points per night in Keystone.
There’s availability for the next several months!
If you’re doing a two-night/three-day getaway, this hotel will cost you 24,000 Hyatt points total (aka 24,000 UR points).
So, for two people venturing out on an extended weekend trip, you’ll use 55,200 points to offset the major expenses of this trip. 🎉
And with that, you’ll still have 23,800 points left over from your original 79,000 to put towards future travel 🤗
Sometimes, using your miles and points can be an extreme process for a complicated international trip.
But other times… it can be quite simple to book a quick and easy getaway with little effort!
🤓 Travel Trivia Tuesday
Travel + Leisure just released their It List with the top 100 hotels for 2024. Can you guess which hotel snagged the number one spot?
Correct answer: Hotel Hanalei Bay, Kauai
The hotel features ocean-facing rooms, open-air restaurants, and a focus on Hawaiian wellness. Not to mention... it's stunningly beautiful!!
But, the beauty most definitely comes at a price starting at around $1,200/night… 😬
Sooooo, I won’t be staying there anytime soon…
Anyway, the list is pretty extensive - from the swanky vibes of Fort Worth to Spain's wine region and the slopes of Hokkaido... there's something for everyone!
Plus, for the first time ever, Travel + Leisure is unveiling the top luxury cruise ships. Dive into their 2024 It List and find more details from tons of lists here.
