Good morning and welcome back to your favorite travel newsletter! Itā€™s Friday, so letā€™s finish off the week with a bang.

Hereā€™s what Iā€™ve got for you:

šŸØ Hyatt Bonus Journeys is back!

Itā€™s been a LONGGGGG time since weā€™ve seen Hyatt drop one of their Bonus Journeys promotion on us.

Instead, weā€™ve been gifted various targeted offers over the last eight months, some of which are good and some of which are moreā€¦ meh.

But Bonus Journeys is back with a new offer that everyone is eligible for:

Here are the deets:

From January 27th through March 28th of this year, you can get double points on all stays and TRIPLE points on stays at Hyatt Place and Hyatt House.

For those last two brands, you can earn a maximum of 10,000 bonus points, and for all other stays, you can earn up to 20,000 bonus points.

As always, you do need to register for the offer, which you can do on this page.

My first impression of this is thatā€¦ itā€™s pretty unexciting.

One of the things I love about Hyatt promos is that they always apply to both paid stays and award stays.

Since this offer is based on spending, it eliminates a lot of the normal value you get from Bonus Journeys offers.

Still, I like that the best part of the offer (triple points) applies to budget-friendly brands that are everywhere in the world, so itā€™s easy to take advantage of.

For example, this hotel in Fort Lauderdale costs around $150 per night.

Hyatt Place in Fort Lauderdale for $153 per night

If you booked a 4-night stay here for around $600, youā€™d normally earn 3,000 points.

With this promotion, youā€™d earn a whopping 9,000 points, plus even more if you have elite status.

Those 9,000+ points are enough to book you an additional free night at a more expensive hotel like this one in Seattle (ish).

Hyatt House Seattle for 9,000 points per night

At a cost of around $200 per night, thatā€™s an amazing return on your original stay.

And since all of these hotels are from the Hyatt Place/House brands, every guest gets free breakfast, regardless of elite status. šŸ„ž

So hereā€™s the bottom line:

This is one of the more boring Bonus Journeys offers weā€™ve seen. But since Hyatt points are so valuable, getting double or triple points can go further than you might think!

āœˆļø Airline status match (and million-mile giveaway!!!)

2024 was the year of status matchesā€¦ I know that for me personally, it was one of the ways I was able to enjoy amazing elite benefits on basically every flight I took.

So itā€™s only fitting that we kick off the new year with yet another status match from one of our favorite airlines in the world: Virgin Atlantic.

Virgin Atlantic's status match landing page

Itā€™s important to note right off the bat that this status match does work a bit differently from other onesā€¦

But more on that in a sec.

Basically, you need to hold elite status with one of the 11 eligible airlines. Based on your level of status, you can match to a similar level with Virgin.

Here is a chart that shows the airlines that most of you are likely to have status with (but you can see the full list of eligible programs here):

Airline Program

Requirements (Silver)

Requirements (Gold)

American Airlines

Platinum Pro

Executive Platinum

Concierge Key

Hawaiian Airlines

Pualani Gold

Pualani Platinum

United Airlines

Premier Platinum

Premier 1k

Global Services

Air Canada Aeroplan

25k or 35k

50k, 75k, or Super Elite

Of course, Delta is not on this list because both airlines belong to the same alliance. So if you have status with Delta, you already get elite benefits on Virgin Atlantic.

Okay, now for the fine printā€¦

In order to actually get the match, you need to have a flight booked with Virgin Atlantic.

Fine print for the two types of status match, requiring you to have flights booked on Virgin

If you match to Silver, you need an economy flight (or better) booked. If you match to top-tier Gold, you need Premium Economy or Business class booked.

There are two silver linings, though:

  1. Virgin Atlantic is an awesome airline and one of the best and most affordable ways to get across the Atlantic.

  2. Both cash and award flights count toward this requirement.

So if youā€™re lucky enough to snag one of Virginā€™s dirt-cheap business-class flights to Europe for under 30,000 miles, you can fly in comfort, save miles, AND get elite status.

Fly from New York to London in Virgin Atlantic business class for just 29,000 miles

The final element of this match is without a doubt the most exciting partā€¦ And thatā€™s that FIVE lucky people who take part in the status match will be given one million miles from Virgin Atlantic.

Sadly, however, this part only applies to U.K. residentsā€¦ so to all you Daily Drop peeps across the pond, you got this. šŸ’Ŗ

Anyway, hereā€™s the bottom line:

This is a bit more tedious than most status matchesā€¦ but since Virgin is so popular and has so many great award rates, itā€™s actually pretty feasible.

If you have status with one of the eligible airlines, Iā€™d definitely consider looking into this if you want SkyTeam elite benefits.
