My Take

The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card is your gateway to top-notch-miles-and-points travel. This card consistently delivers exceptional value and benefits. The annual fee is easily offset by the valuable benefits and spending credits. Currently, this card’s offer is worth more than enough for several nights at IHG properties around the world. With the IHG Premier, you'll enjoy perks like up to $120 in statement credits for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck®, automatic Platinum Elite status with IHG Rewards, and up to $50 United TravelBank Cash each year. Plus, you get one free night each card anniversary at IHG hotels, which (again) can cover the cost of the annual fee. This card is perfect for frequent travelers and those who love staying at IHG properties. Whether you’re booking a luxury stay or just a weekend getaway, the IHG Premier enhances your travel with exclusive benefits and rewards.

The sub on this card allowed our family of 3 to stay in NYC during Christmas in an awesome hotel for free. The cash cost was around $2k during that time. This card is great because of the 4th free night.

I got this Card when there was the 120000 sign up points, I plan on using this for a couple of vacations. I end up having more hotels from IHG in the area than any other in the small towns I've been going to so it works out well

We have three reward cards. IHG is the card we use the most. With the points earned, both by purchases and stays, we are able to stay at many different locations that fit our travel plans. We are also able to book rooms using points for family members that are traveling to visit without any trouble. There are a few occasions that there is limited room availability with reward points, but we usually can adjust plans. With IHG, you know pretty much what you are getting with this hotel chain.

My first hotel credit card and never disappointed… you get a nice sign up bonus with low cost annual fee.  Open up the world with IHG, holiday Inn and many hotels around the world.   Simple guy with just nice hotel options.  It meets my comfort and preference. Having Platinum status gets you lots of benefits.  I like the early check in and breakfast and extra bonus points.  Won’t be disappointed with IHG Premier ❤️💪

How to make the most of your

IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card

When it comes to IHG Rewards Points the best way to maximize your points is to redeem them with travel.

[.dontreco] We don’t recommend: Redeeming for Cash Back [.dontreco]

Using your points for cash back typically provides a lower value than redeeming for travel.

[.sometimesreco] We sometimes recommend: Booking through the IHG Portal [.sometimesreco]

You can redeem your points for hotel stays directly through the IHG portal, but this usually gives you a value of 0.5 cents per point or less. While this is a decent option, it’s still not the best.

[.alwaysreco] We always recommend: Using Points for Free Nights [.alwaysreco]

Redeeming points for free nights at IHG hotels provides the best value. This can give you more than 0.7 cents per point, especially if you take advantage of promotions and the fourth-night free benefit.

Transfer Partners

While the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card does have certain airline and hotel transfer partners, those ratios do not provide the best value for your points...or really any value for that matter.

Our Favorite Redemptions

Kara and Nate stayed at the InterContinental Bora Bora, a night normally costing around $1,000. But…drumroll please…they booked with points! 🎉 Because of that, the price tag was under $100 for one of the most exclusive stays. We’re talking overwater bungalows, breathtaking views, and exceptional service. The first step? Applying for an IHG Rewards Premier card! The Best Complementary Cards

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

Why? Combining the IHG One Rewards Premier Card with the Chase Freedom Unlimited® creates a well-rounded strategy for earning rewards on all your purchases. The IHG card rewards you (like a lot) for staying at IHG properties, while the Freedom Unlimited offers 1.5% cash back (or 1.5x points) on every purchase. Since Freedom Unlimited’s points can be transferred to your IHG account when paired with a premium Chase card, you can turn everyday spending into free nights at IHG hotels, making this duo a powerful tool for maximizing your miles and points.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

ELEVATED OFFER

Why? The IHG One Rewards Premier Card pairs well with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card for those looking to optimize their travel rewards. The IHG card focuses on maximizing points at IHG properties, while the Sapphire Preferred offers 2x points on travel and dining, which can be transferred to IHG or other travel partners. This combination allows you to earn points on hotel stays and everyday travel expenses, with the flexibility to redeem through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal or transfer to various airline and hotel programs.

The World of Hyatt Credit Card

ELEVATED OFFER

Why? Pairing the IHG One Rewards Premier Card with the World of Hyatt Credit Card is a smart strategy for travelers who enjoy staying at both IHG and Hyatt properties. The IHG card offers substantial rewards on IHG hotel stays, including Platinum Elite status and an anniversary free night award. The World of Hyatt card complements this by earning points on Hyatt stays, dining, and fitness club memberships, along with automatic Discoverist status. Together, these cards allow you to maximize rewards and enjoy elite benefits across two major hotel chains, providing tons of flexibility.

Who Should Get The

IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card

?

  1. The IHG Loyalist

If you frequently find yourself booking stays at IHG properties such as InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, or Holiday Inn, the IHG One Rewards Premier Card is a must-have in your wallet. This card is designed to maximize your rewards and elevate your hotel experiences. With automatic Platinum Elite status, you'll enjoy perks like complimentary room upgrades, extended check-out times, and bonus points on stays (uhh…bring it). Plus, the card offers an annual free night at any IHG hotel, which alone can often cover the cost of the annual fee. For loyal IHG customers, the combination of these benefits and the potential to earn tons of bonus points makes this card a no-brainer.

  1. The Frequent Traveler

For those jet-setting often, the IHG Rewards Premier offers super solid value. The card's travel perks, including up to $120 in statement credits for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® and up to $50 in United TravelBank Cash each year, are perfect for frequent flyers. And, the card’s earning potential is impressive, with up to 26x points per $1 spent at IHG hotels and 5x points on travel, dining, and at gas stations. These points can quickly add up, which means you get to enjoy free nights at IHG properties worldwide. The card also provides travel protection benefits, so if you’re someone who travels often and enjoys staying at a variety of IHG hotels, this card can offer some awesome perks while saving you money.

Who Should Not Get The

IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card

?

Here’s a good rule of thumb: You probably shouldn’t own a credit card if you: (1) have a bad credit score, (2) are a non-U.S. resident (for this particular card), and (3) cannot control your spending. If your credit score is below 700, you'll need to improve it before applying for travel credit cards, as approval for the best ones, like the IHG Rewards Premier, is unlikely. Be honest with yourself: if a new credit card will tempt you to overspend, it's best to avoid it. Credit cards are crucial for earning miles and points, but they require responsible use.
