😬 Russian tourists planning a February ski trip to North Korea will be the country's first international visitors since the global pandemic prompted border closures in January 2020. Read more here.
Good morning, and welcome back to another episode of Daily Drop! We’ve got some fun hacks and interesting facts for you today, so let’s jump right in:
✈️ Award Drop: Round trips to Europe for 38k American miles
It’s no secret that American Airlines has a fantastic loyalty program. I’ve certainly raved about it here in Daily Drop plenty of times…
And as if we needed any more reason to love American miles, they’ve just launched a big boy sale with flights to Europe for as few as 19,000 miles that you’re going to want to jump on ASAP.
Here is the deal:
Right now, American Airlines is offering round-trip flights to Europe from various U.S. cities for 38,000 miles, which is a VERY GOOD deal.
Specifically, these flights are showing up between early August and late December, 2024.
And the best part…?
This pricing applies to a TON of U.S. cities, both big and small. In addition to hubs like New York, Dallas, and Charlotte, we’re seeing the same pricing from cities like Akron, Birmingham, Albany, and Ashville.
This is a solid opportunity for those of you who live in smaller cities to get to Europe for cheap without needing to book a positioning flight.
As I’ve mentioned in the past, there are LOTS of great ways to rack up American miles, including their dining portal, co-branded credit cards, and travel portal, which can even help boost you toward American Airlines elite status.
Given that this pricing begins in late summer, this is a great way to save miles on flights during a busy and otherwise expensive travel season.
Don’t forget that American lets you cancel or change award flights for free, so there is no reason not to lock something in now, even if you’re unsure of your plans.
There’s no telling how long these awards will last, so book your flights sooner than later before it’s too late.
🏨 Quick hacks: How to earn 500 bonus Hyatt points per night
Some of the best travel hacks in life are the simplest ones.
Like the fact that at any given time, Hyatt has a big list of hotels that will offer you 500 bonus points per night.
This list is generally comprised of new Hyatt properties as an incentive for people to stay there.
As of a couple of days ago, this list has been updated with dozens of new properties that will award these bonus points all the way through May 2024.
And if you think 500 points is a waste of your time, don’t forget that these are Hyatt points.
For example, if you book a 7-night stay at any of the properties on the list (which includes plenty of new properties around the U.S.), you’d earn 3,500 bonus points.
That’s already enough to book a free night at a whole cornucopia of potential properties around the world, like this Category 1 hotel that I will be staying at in Bali soon:
So here’s the bottom line:
You shouldn’t go out of your way to spend extra money in order to rake in these 500 points per night.
At the same time, if you have travel plans, I’d consult this list to see if you can strategically book a room at a newer hotel to get a fairly meaningful amount of added value from your hotel stays.
🤓 Travel Trivia Tuesday
In the realm of airline performance, which carrier was the "most on-time airline" in North America for 2023? |
Only Email Recipients can participate in polls. |
Despite a year filled with exciting new routes and destinations, on-time arrivals continue to be a top priority for travelers. (I mean... I think we can all agree on that one)
According to Cirium's annual airline and airport report, Delta clinched the top spot in North America and secured the fourth-best global performance.
Avianca Airlines, Azul Airlines, and Qatar Airways took the top three global spots, with Avianca claiming the title of the most on-time global airline.
Delta's impressive on-time arrival percentage for 2023 reached 84.72%, a nearly one percent improvement from the previous year.
The airline's consistency earned it the Platinum Award for the third consecutive year.
Trailing behind Delta in North America are Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and JetBlue.
Unsurprisingly, two of Delta's major hubs—Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport—secured positions in the top five performing airports globally.
