Good morning and welcome back to Daily Drop, the best part of every Thursday morning. And Friday morning… and, well, every morning, I guess. 🤷🏼♂️
Here’s what we’ve got for you today:
✈️ 50% transfer bonus to Turkish Airlines
I love it when a good transfer bonus offers outsize value in ways that you’d never expect…
On the surface, this transfer bonus doesn’t sound broadly applicable to most people… but if you dig in, you’ll be surprised at how much value it offers, even for U.S. domestic travel.
Right now, there is a 50% transfer bonus from ThankYou points to Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles.
You may remember that earlier this year, Turkish absolutely DEMOLISHED their award chart overnight.
The program became mostly useless… except for a few lingering sweet spots.
One of those sweet spots is flying from the U.S. to Turkey in business class, which only costs as little as 65,000 Turkish miles.
That’s not a bad deal already…
But toss in this 50% bonus, and you only need to transfer 44,000 ThankYou Points to book a flight from the U.S. to Istanbul in style, including this 13+ hour flight from Los Angeles.
That’s pretty epic, especially if you end up flying in one of the new, sleek Aurora business-class seats that Turkish offers on many of its planes flying to/from the U.S.
But there’s an even better sweet spot…
Turkish allows you to book domestic flights in the U.S. (on United) for just 10,000 Turkish miles one-way.
And that goes for ANY domestic itinerary that United flies (assuming Turkish has award availability), even ridiculously long ones.
That means you can fly from Boston to Hawaii with a layover in San Francisco for just 10,000 Turkish miles. 👇
With this transfer bonus, you only need 6,700 ThankYou points to fly more than 5,000 miles on United and still only pay $5.60 in fees.
Because of Turkish’s generous partner award chart for domestic United flights, you could also book this itinerary in BUSINESS class for just 15,000 Turkish miles.
Since United flies their 777 wide-body planes to Honolulu, this means you’ll spend more than five hours in a lie-flat seat and get access to United’s lounges for just 10,000 ThankYou points…
I recently spent WAY too many hours in United Polaris on the 777, and it was not too shabby at all.
My recent seat in United Polaris on the 777
So here’s the bottom line…
A lot of people are writing off Turkish’s program entirely because of their recent devaluation…
But you’re smarter than that.
So hop on this opportunity to book some incredible flights both in the U.S. and abroad at a fraction of what everyone else is paying.
This bonus lasts until June 15th and has a cap of 50,000 bonus miles. You can read the details here on Turkish’s website.
🍪 Tasty Travel Tidbits
😢 Yesterday, a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore hit severe turbulence, causing dozens of injuries and even, sadly, one fatality. Don’t forget to wear your seatbelts whenever you can, folks. You never know when your flight will hit unexpected turbulence.
✈️ United has walked back some of its recent award devaluations for partners around the world… Generally speaking, there are plenty of good deals out there for United miles. But use your miles sooner rather than later to avoid potential further devaluations down the road.
🇨🇴 Avianca has launched a co-branded credit card in the U.S., which is pretty interesting. I’ve told you plenty of times about how Avianca LifeMiles offers the best award pricing for Star Alliance flights, so this could be really exciting!
💸 Get 33% off Breeze Airways flights (ends May 24th!)
Breeze Airways is a fairly new budget airline that provides connecting routes to smaller and mid-sized airports that many larger carriers don’t cater to.
I personally think it’s a great concept!
For example, if you live near a smaller airport that is serviced by Breeze, it could make a lot of sense to take a short, cheap flight with them versus driving several hours to whatever major airport you’re trying to get to.
And right now, they’re running a sale through tomorrow, May 24th, that allows you to save up to 33% off base fares on select round-trip flights.
This sale is eligible for travel between May 29th and October 1st, 2024 (but there are some blackout dates).
You’ll simply need to book directly with Breeze online or via their app and use the promo code THREE at checkout.
And where might you find routes with Breeze Airways? Mainly on the East Coast, but they’ve also got some connections out West 👇
And here are just a few examples of routes and prices you’ll find on their site:
Overall, this is a nice discount to pop up and could be quite useful for some of you who are looking to position yourselves at a more major airport for future travel 🙌
If you couldn’t guess based on the image above… We have a VERY special podcast this week with a VERY special guest!
Megan sits down with Nate (one half of the famous traveling duo Kara and Nate!) to chat about everything from beginning his own miles and points journey to founding Daily Drop.
And y’all—it’s a good one 🤗
Here’s a sneak peek at just some of the topics that they chat about:
How Kara and Nate’s points strategy has shifted since they started
Best ways to earn if you can only travel once a year
Do they earn millions of points through credit card referrals on their channels??
Was Daily Drop the plan the whole time?!
Nate's favorite redemption, biggest mistake, and dream redemptions
A behind the scenes look at Kara and Nate's upcoming adventures
You don’t want to miss out on listening to this episode (or watching it over on YouTube!).
That’s gonna do it for today’s newsletter, folks!
I hope you are as excited as I am about today’s content, especially flying to Hawaii for basically nothing…
