⛴️ Have you heard of Candela's new P-12 electric ferry in Stockholm? The ferries aim to revolutionize waterborne public transport globally, operating quietly above the water to reduce carbon emissions in cities with waterways. Pretty cool, huh? You can read more here.
Good morning, and welcome back to Daily Drop, the travel newsletter that just keeps on giving and giving and giving.
It’s like Christmas every day… but better.

✈️ Last call for the best Southwest deal of the year
I have good news and bad news. Which do you want first?
Good news? Hmmm… Bold choice. But okay:
Right now, Southwest has VERY high welcome offers of 75,000 points on all of their cobranded credit cards.
It’s the single best offer we’ve seen from Southwest since… well… maybe ever.
But don’t get too excited… We still have the bad news.
The bad news is that this is your LAST CHANCE to jump on this deal. 😭
While 75,000 points might not sound like a lot, trust me - it is. In fact, I’ll tell you exactly why.
I mapped out the following itinerary for a total of just 73,881 Southwest points - less than you’d get from signing up for ANY of these cards.
I can’t imagine anyone would want to take that exact itinerary, but it illustrates just how far Southwest points can take you, both in the U.S. and abroad.
Now I know what you’re thinking…
Jeez, Mike - you’re such a badass. I mean, obviously, the value is there. But what happens next year when I have to pay the annual fee on the card again? Should I just close it?
Great question, generic reader.
The answer might surprise you. In fact, I think some of these cards can be considered “keeper cards” because of the value you get EVERY year.
For example, if you hold the premium Southwest card, you’ll get some valuable perks EVERY year, like:
Southwest flight credit
Anniversary bonus points
Upgrade certificates
Considering that the card only has an annual fee of less than $150, I’d say these annual benefits EASILY pay for the card every year.
If you’re still afraid of annual fees, you could also opt for the lower-tier card, which has an annual fee of less than half of the previous card.
Southwest has so many low-cost flights that this bonus could keep you in the sky for the foreseeable future. This flight from Boston to Orlando only costs around 2,000 points:
With this signup offer, you’d be able to fly this route almost 40 times. FORTY TIMES!!!
So here’s the bottom line:
These cards currently have EPIC offers of 75,000 points each that are about to end. If you travel around the U.S. at all, you can get significant value from these cards and offers.

💳 20% transfer bonus to Aeroplan
One of our favorite reward programs, the home of UR points, is gifting us a solid transfer bonus to none other than… Aeroplan.
And by “solid transfer bonus,” I’m talking about a 20% bonus through January 15th, 2024, from a program that has historically been stingy when it comes to offering these.
But before you read this and think, “Eww Aeroplan and Air Canada?” Let me clear things up.
Yes, it’s true. Air Canada is perhaps the most meh airline on the planet. A lot of the time, I feel rather “Grinch-y” about it… 👇
However, you can take advantage of Aeroplan’s frequent flyer program and have absolutely nothing to do with the airline, Air Canada.
Here’s why I love Aeroplan. Sure, if you find a good redemption actually flying with Air Canada, then go for it.
BUT, thanks to Aeroplan’s more than 50 airline partners (including its Star Alliance membership), you get access to nearly every corner of the globe… and at pretty fair redemption rates.
It’s fantastic.
Okay, BUT WAIT. It gets better.
IF you also happen to hold Aeroplan’s credit card, you could actually get another bonus to stack on top of this current one 👀
Basically, if you transfer 50,000 or more UR points to Aeroplan in one transaction, you’ll receive a 10% bonus on this transfer.
This promo is valid through December 31, 2023. So if my math is (hopefully) correct, 20% + 10% = 30%…
So some of you might have the opportunity to score up to a 30% transfer bonus from a fan-favorite travel currency to one of my favorite frequent flyer programs ever.
That’s all for today, friends! I know I’ve told you how I feel about the current Southwest offer, but I’m curious to know how you feel:
