Good morning, and welcome back to Daily Drop, the newsletter equivalent of a $5 bodega bottle of wine. It’s awesome, no matter how cheap it is.
Let’s get into it, shall we?
💳 Why this might just be the best card… for anyone
Last week, we told you about the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and its current EPIC welcome offer.
The reason it’s so exciting is that Capital One rarely increases offers like this…
But there’s another reason, too:
This card is just freaking AWESOME anyway, and it’s a card that I think could be a fantastic addition to anyone’s wallet… including mine. 😉
So today, I’ll tell you why.
First, let’s talk about redeeming Capital One miles.
We all know that you can transfer your miles to airlines to book expensive luxury-ass flights, blah, blah, blah.
But what makes Capital One miles unique is the fact that you can use them to offset ANY travel purchase at a rate of one cent per point, no portal needed.
That means that if you buy a cheap flight on a budget airline when traveling around Europe, you can use miles for it.
If you use your Venture card to book the above flight, you could simply offset that purchase with 3,800 miles.
Given its big welcome offer, you could book a LOT of cheap flights like that…
Even if you just want to find a cheap hotel on Google and book through a third-party website like Expedia, you could use the Venture card to offset the purchase.
So whether you’re booking cheap flights, staying in hostels, want to use miles for train tickets, OR are booking first-class awards, the Venture card is right for you. 🫵
But what happens when the welcome offer miles run dry?
Thankfully, this card is one of the BEST ways to rack up mad points… and quickly.
That’s because the card earns 2x Capital One miles on anything.
That’s double the miles that most cards earn on non-category spending.
But if you’re a travel psycho like me and spend a lot of cash on hotels, you’ll earn a whopping 5x miles per dollar when you book hotels through the Capital One travel portal.
So, let’s review. 👨🏫
This card has:
✅ A high welcome offer
✅ The most flexible ways to redeem miles
✅ The easiest way to earn miles from regular spending
✅ A low annual fee
Speaking of that last part…
If you have any doubts about paying an annual fee, you can stop worrying now.
Because part of the welcome offer of this card is a $250 credit to use with Capital One travel… which pays for the annual fee… and then some.
Now, I know some of you have some questions about the Venture Card, Capital One, approval requirements, and more.
Thankfully, our talented Daily Drop Lounge manager, Megan, put together a post answering some of these questions. 👇
The comments thread also has other questions asked and answered by our lounge members, so go check it out.
Finally, let me end on a personal note:
I haven’t signed up for a new credit card in a year and a half… which is wild.
But this offer was so great that I decided to go for it and was instantly approved despite being a “scary customer with a ton of open accounts.”
So, hopefully, many of you can hop on this sweet deal like I did. 😊
🍪 Tasty Travel Tidbits
✈️ After a number of close calls and near misses, the FAA is finally opening an investigation into Southwest for its safety culture (or lack thereof). Let’s hope this leads to fewer incidents down the road!
🏨 This fall, a new hotel in Colorado Springs will open… with flight simulators inside! For all you avgeeks out there, this is a cool chance to try flying a Boeing 737 or F-16 fighter jet from the comfort of your hotel.

✈️ Earn double points on Virgin flights (today only)
I’m exhausted from all that card talk, so I’ll get right to the point here:
TODAY ONLY, you can earn double miles for Virgin Atlantic flights taken before the end of the year.
And while this might sound pretty niche, It’s actually potentially very valuable.
Here are the deets:
You must book your flights by today
This applies to cash flights only
Flights must be completed by December 31st, 2024
Only certain routes are eligible (see the full list here)
Overall, this deal should be used by anyone who either:
Loves Virgin Atlantic and flies them anyway, or
Needs to fly to Europe this summer, fall, or winter and is content with locking in plans NOW
As you can see on their website, there are plenty of routes where this deal would apply, some of which will earn a meaningful number of miles.
For example, you can book this flight from Los Angeles to London for $517 in economy (with a flexible cancellation and change policy).
That’s not terrible from the West Coast to Europe.
But also, this flight would normally earn you 5,442 Virgin Miles. With this deal, you’d earn 10,884 miles total.
Guess what?
That’s enough to book ANOTHER Virgin Atlantic flight from the U.S. to Europe down the road.
So here’s the bottom line:
Because of Virgin’s cheap award rates, earning double miles could mean being able to book another discounted flight to/from Europe in the future.
That’s all for today, my friends! I hope you are all as excited as I am about this latest Capital One offer.
Having a massive travel credit and tens of thousands of points from a low-annual-fee card is always a good thing.
But if you already have the card or can’t get approved, fear not - there are always new offers around the corner.
Take care and see you tomorrow. ❤️
