My Take

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Card is one of those “keeper cards” we’re always talking about. I’ve had the Venture X for three years, and its miles earnings and travel perks prove its worth year after year. The annual fee might seem steep, but the travel benefits you get each year more than make up for it! Honestly, I can’t even begin to tell you how many hours of my life I have (very comfortably) spent in airport lounges thanks to this card. Literally, thank you, Venture X.

Better yet, Capital One Rewards lets users book travel or cover travel expenses from the past 90 days at one cent per mile. This means the Venture X can cover $750 in travel costs, even retroactively! Plus, Capital One Miles can be transferred to several airline programs at a 1:1 ratio (but more on that later). The Venture X Card’s current offer is 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months. This offer is valued at just over $1,300. Y’all…that’s really good. Not only is the Venture X Card a fan favorite within our Daily Drop team, but it’s also known to help you pay for pretty much anything with miles. Brendan says that if he could only keep one travel card in his wallet, it would be the Venture X Card. Check out this YouTube video where he explains exactly why that is 👇

This was my first travel rewards card and it has totally changed the travel experience for me! I love that the card offers luxury perks like lounge access and Global Entry/TSA Pre-check while still giving the cardholder back the full cost of the card between travel credits & points. It's easy to get good value even if you only travel a couple times a year!

I applied for the Venture X last year and have really enjoyed the perks. We have made use of the priority pass for lounges, (still trying to book a trip that gets us through DFW or one of the other airports with Capital One lounges) used the travel credit for a hotel stay and it is my go-to card for miscellaneous purchases with the 2X. Saving up the points for a big international trip next year.

I love this card especially for the Cap 1 lounge at IAD since it's my home airport. The extra bonuses are the $100 Global Entry credit and the $300 travel credit. I'll most likely keep this card for a long time!

Just coming up on my 2nd anniversary with this card and it has been so worth it for my husband and me. I love the simplicity of 2 miles on everything. We more than make back the annual fee by using the travel credit and enjoying lounge access on our trips. The 6 month Cultivist membership got us into so many museums in London and NYC-those visits alone were worth several hundred dollars. The breakfast and $100 credit at Premiere collection hotels has also been a great perk. Photo of our gorgeous room at The Fitzwilliam in Dublin. I would recommend this card to anyone!

This is my favorite travel card of the 5 that I own. The biggest benefit is Priority Pass and the fact that I can have three other authorized users for free. This gives me AND my whole family access to PP lounges whenever they fly.

The Venture X is my FAVORITE card I own! I’ve used this card to book round trip flights to Buenos Aires (for a trip to Antarctica, thanks to K&N 🤩), and I’m flying on Emirates First Class for my honeymoon!!! Both of those flights were purchased with points from their welcome offer and from referring friends/ two player mode. I also love the Capital One lounges ☺️ I’d recommend this card to anyone looking for an excellent premium rewards card!

My first card after starting to read Daily Drop. Used our initial points to pay for an all-inclusive stay in Jamaica. The hotel we booked had a change in ownership shortly after we booked and the reviews were terrible. Capital One allowed us to cancel the hotel and apply the points to an even better hotel with a quick phone call. We had enough points left over to pay for flights for upcoming trip to Costa Rica. Just received our 1st anniversary points and will be using them to book a European trip in 2025. We love our Venture X card!

I applied for the Venture X card last year after learning about the sign up bonus, and benefits and points, from Daily Drop. The annual fee has paid for itself with the $300 annual hotel credit that I've used twice for nice hotels that I booked through the Capital One portal. I also renewed my Global Entry this year and got the $100 credited back. Finally, the Priority Pass lounge access that comes with it has come in handy several times when traveling domestically and internationally.

Love that the annual fee on this card cancels itself out with the $300 travel credit and annual 10,000 miles bonus. Also love that you can transfer points to British Airways because their Avios points are very valuable when redeeming for rewards flights. I recently transferred CapitalOne points to Avios to book roundtrip flights to Scotland (with free stopover in London) to see the Eras Tour for only 50k points (cash value of those flights was much higher than $500!)

I love this card! It earns miles so well and has so many perks. I have not made a redemption yet with my bonus from meeting the spend requirement, but I have signed up for global entry and I love the travel and hotel credits I get when booking through their travel portal! Incredible value and I can’t wait to book a reward flight to Europe soon!

I love the perks this card offers!  We started with the Venture card and upgraded to the Venture X card recently. We were able to still receive the sign up and spend bonus with the new card and have benefitted from the Global Entry/PreCheck benefit in the past. We upgraded because of the 300$ travel credit and the addition of Priority Pass and have loved it. We used both immediately as it makes some of those travel days way more comfortable. Even though there is a 395$ fee it is covered by the travel credit, global entry credit, anniversary bonus, and the regular 2X points on everything.  Further, using the the travel portal is very easy and the flights available are the same ones you see on google flights.  I can’t suggest this card more if you are someone who loves to travel, especially internationally!

Total newbie to the travel card/point game, but I signed up for the emails, got inspired and on board, then opened this card in anticipation of an upcoming trip.  The travel perks (lounge access, loyalty program upgrades, etc) enhanced our trip, but to be able to leverage our spending to come home having earned the SUB bonus, which will allow us to travel AGAIN, is icing on the cake!

This card is a no-brainer. Despite the $395 annual fee, it actually pays YOU back. The $300 annual travel credit along with the 10,000 miles anniversary bonus nets me $5 back. Love this card and its wealth of perks. I haven’t been to an airport yet where I couldn’t use a lounge to wait for my flight via the free Priority Pass membership included with my card. I love this card. Even with the high annual fee, I always use the $300 hotel credit every single year. That's my favorite credit card perk. I also love that this card allows me to redeem travel with miles on the back end, like with airbnbs. I highly recommend this card to anyone who is just starting out in the miles and points realm or is well versed in the points/miles game.

We got this card earlier this year because we were planning a big trip to Asia. We are so happy we did. The Priority Pass worked perfectly, we visited 8 lounges without any issues. The one outside the security at Osaka was a wonderful surprise where we got a private room. We also tracked prices for flights and booked when they recommended. I kept checking after booking and the recommended timing was spot on.

I was new to airport lounges, made possible by Venture X. If you are too, gives a new (stress-free, enjoyable) perspective on air travel. Also utilized the $100 allowance for Known Traveler, which makes passing through security a non-issue as well. In short, pay the fee for Venture X because you get more than just financial perks in return.

The Venture X is our favorite travel card.  Besides receiving 2x on all spending the $300 travel credit and 10,000 points ever year make this card pay for itself.  We especially enjoy the Airport Lounge benefit.  On a recent trip to Peru we used the lounges in 3 different Peru airports while waiting for flights.  We also like that you can have multiple Authorized users to enjoy the lounge benefits. By far my favorite credit card in my wallet. Every year I am consistently blown away by how much value I get out of this card, especially as the cheapest of all the “premier” travel credit cards on the market. My most recent “win” with this card was transferring less than 100k points to Virgin Red while a transfer bonus was happening and then using those points to book an almost free 5 night cruise with Virgin Atlantic (our particular sailing would’ve been over $3,000 for a balcony cabin had it not been for points!!!). And then the cherry on top - I was able to use the yearly $300 travel credit to cover 80% of the cost of our round trip flights to Florida for the cruise. And of course we’ll be hitting up our favorite lounge, the Capital One lounge in Dallas, and filling up on free amazing food and drinks on both of our layovers during said round trip flights 😏 Do yourself a favor and get this card, like NOW!

This card was great for my wife and I (we each received a sub after individually receiving our own card). I love this card for the lounge access. I am a frequent traveler and I work for an airline so I don’t spend a lot on flights but I use my points towards hotels and since I spend plenty of time in airports I love being able to escape the crowds, and grab a meal or drink in lounges around the world. Shout out to the capitol one lounge in DIA because sometimes I feel like I live in that airport.

This card is the best! I've had 2 chase reward cards before moving to this one and this one is far superior to both Chase IMO. And if you're like me and DFW is your home airport which has an amazing capital one lounge, definitely take this over the other cards. The lounge is worth the fees alone and love that every purchase is 2x. I'm earning way more points than I ever did on my chase cards with just everyday living and spending. And it has most of the same benefits as other cards with greater annual fees

My husband and I decided to get this card back in March of 2022 because we had quite a bit of travel coming up. After thoroughly researching which lounges we could access based on our travels we went for it and have been in love ever since. Don’t let the higher annual fee deter you, it has paid for itself time and time again. Just with points alone we’ve been able to fly to Europe and we’re heading to Southeast Asia next month. This is my hands down favorite travel card

At first I was skeptical of the annual fee for this card, but once I realized how much value you get for the $395, I quickly signed up! In the six months that I've had this card, I have already been to 5 lounges (including the incredible Capital One Lounge in DFW), received Global Entry, and used all of the $300 travel credit. The Capital One portal is easy to use and the 5x miles on flights and 10x on hotels perks make it sooo easy to rack up miles quickly. This is definitely a keeper card!

My husband and I got this card last year and we would say it is worth it! While it does come with a high annual fee, the perks you get with the card cover the cost. This was the second miles and points card I signed up for, and while the annual fee seemed a bit steep, I knew they'd be fully covered by the value I received from the card. This card has made my travel life 1) easier with the Global Entry/TSA Pre-check credit, 2) fancier with access to Priority Pass lounges, and 3) cheaper with the $300 travel credit I used for two hotel rooms in Portland, Maine and a couple of reward flight redemptions. I've used the sign up bonus and other points I've earned on this card to two business class tickets on Japan Airlines' new A350 product and two economy tickets on Air France. Thanks to Daily Drop, I got the Venture X card, did the spend and watched the points post to my account.  It's now my go to card for purchases given the 2x multiple (you don't get that with AMEX!).   Another plus is that the Capital One portals are - in my humble opinion - GREAT - much easier to use than Chase or AMEX.  Chase has taken security to insanely high levels - try accessing Chase from a Windows 7 desktop - no can do.  Do they know how many hundreds of thousands of people still use W 7???  Anyway, thanks DD for the Venture X recommendation.  A great card.

I live on an island. An archipelago to be exact, connected to the mainland by a series of bridges. It's a 4 hour drive, one way, on a good day. My elderly father had a unique cancer. Both my parents appreciated another set of ears when it came to doctors and treatment. Our little island is serviced by a budget airline (!) with direct flights (!) to the airport closest to my parents (!). Enter Cap One Venture X miles. I can book my budget ticket through the Cap One travel portal, earning 5x the points. Then, I can redeem the cost of the flight with a statement credit. Is it a sexy, exciting way to use points and miles? Hardly. Is it priceless to attend chemotherapy treatments every other week at a minimal cost and hassle? Absolutely!

How to make the most of your

Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

When it comes to Capital One Miles, the best way to maximize your miles is to redeem them with travel. And to take it one step further (because *ahem* this is Daily Drop), the Venture X Card will let you pay for any type of travel with miles. Yeah, you heard me right — ANY type of travel.

[.dontreco] We don’t recommend: Turning your Capital One Miles into cash [.dontreco]

With a Capital One rewards card, you earn cash back or miles on every dollar you spend. The amount you earn varies based on the card and how you use it. However, this method simply doesn’t provide the best value.

[.sometimesreco] We sometimes recommend: Booking through Capital One’s portal [.sometimesreco]

Booking travel through Capital One lets you redeem miles at 1 cent each, but you won't earn extra rewards or elite perks. It's better to book directly and then use your miles to cover the cost.

[.alwaysreco] We always recommend: Redeeming your miles for travel [.alwaysreco]

The bottom line is — if a flight or hotel room can be bought with cash, you can use your miles to book it. You can redeem your miles at 1 cent each for travel purchases made in the last 90 days on your Venture X Card. And, there's no minimum amount needed. This means you could redeem for airlines, hotels, rail lines, car rentals, limousines, buses, cruises, taxis, travel agents, and more — literally anything in your wildest dreams! Taking advantage of these $750 worth of credits is what makes the Venture X so jaw-dropping and magical. By redeeming your miles for travel, you’ll absolutely maximize their value.

If you’ve been reading Daily Drop for a while (or even watching our fave travel duo — Kara and Nate) then you might have heard of ANA’s “The Room.”

Basically, “The Room” is bigger than any other business-class seats (and even some first-class seats). It comes with closing doors, personal catering, and a lie-flat bed…so yeah, pretty incredible.

The best part? Capital One Miles can be transferred to ANA at a 1:1 ratio. When Kara and Nate booked “The Room,” they used some miles. And, if you want the full details on that redemption, check out this video 👇

The Best Complementary Cards

American Express® Gold Card

ELEVATED OFFER

Why? Speaking of “keeper cards,” the Gold Card most definitely falls into that category. Many travel experts would tell you the Venture X and the Gold Card would be their only cards if given an ultimatum. With the Venture X, you're earning a solid 2X miles per dollar spent on most purchases. Plus, you'll snag 5X miles per dollar on flights and a generous 10X miles per dollar on rental cars and hotels (just remember to book through the Capital One Travel portal to cash in on these bonuses). The Amex Gold card shines brightest with everyday purchases. This is especially true when it comes to dining out and grocery shopping, earning a sweet 4x Membership Rewards® points per dollar spent on purchases at restaurants worldwide, on up to $50,000 in purchases per calendar year, then 1X points for the rest of the year.

By tag-teaming these two cards, you’ll be racking up points and miles like a pro. The Venture X may sting a bit with its $395 annual fee, but trust me, the perks more than make up for it. You're looking at a $300 travel credit, lounge access, and bonus miles every anniversary, and we value these perks at over $700 (in other words…it's a no-brainer). Now, onto the Amex Gold Card. Yes, it has a $325 annual fee, but stick with me. The American Express® Gold Card offers several credits: $120 Uber Cash when you add the card to your Uber account, providing $10 in monthly Uber Cash for Uber Eats or rides (To receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible American Express Gold Card must be a method of payment in your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States.); $84 Dunkin' Credit, giving up to $7 in monthly statement credits at Dunkin' locations; $100 Resy Credit, offering up to $100 in annual statement credits for dining at U.S. Resy restaurants; and $120 Dining Credit, allowing up to $10 in monthly statement credits at select dining establishments -- those statement credits more than make up for the annual fee. Enrollment required for select benefits.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

Why? It’s no secret that, here at Daily Drop, we’re pretty much obsessed with the Sapphire Preferred — and can you blame us? While this card is wonderful on its own, it also pairs perfectly with the Capital One Venture X Card. First up, the Sapphire Preferred. It's your go-to for racking up Chase Ultimate Rewards points on travel and dining with top-notch travel protections, all for a modest $95 annual fee. But what really sets it apart? The ability to transfer those miles to Chase's vast array of travel partners for maximum value.

Now, enter the Venture X. This bad boy gives you straightforward rewards and deluxe travel perks like lounge access, rental car elite status, and a generous $300 travel credit, all at a reasonable annual fee. Combine the two, and you've got access to an impressive lineup of transfer partners, hefty welcome bonuses, solid rewards on all your spending, and luxe travel perks – all for less in annual fees than any other premium travel card out there. But why these two cards specifically? The Sapphire Preferred is perfect for newbies and seasoned travelers alike, thanks to its low fee and freaking awesome perks. With the Venture X, you’re getting premium benefits at a fair price.

With the Sapphire Preferred, you can book through Chase TravelSM and get 1.25 cents per point in value. Capital One has a similar setup, but trust us, you'll want to save your miles for travel purchases instead. When it comes to redeeming Capital One miles, using them for any travel expense with your card gets you a solid 1 cent per mile – meaning you can cover that $500 flight with 50,000 miles, no problem. But, transferring them to partner airlines and hotels is where you’ll see the most value. And with this duo, you've got a whole bunch of options to choose from.

Card Combinations

Brendan gives two great examples of “card combos,” but ultimately, one stands out from the rest. And, that combo just happens to include the Venture X Card. Check out that video here 👇

Who Should Get The

Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

?

  1. The Ladder-Climber

So there’s this thing called the Credit Card Ladder. Brendan does an excellent job explaining it in this YouTube video. But here’s the quick version: When you start on your miles and points journey, you might not have a single open account or even an existing credit score. This was me in 2022. Because life isn’t fair sometimes, you have to start with baby credit cards and work your way up to the big boys (i.e. The Venture X, The Platinum Card® from American Express, etc.).

While the Capital One Venture X Card might not be a “beginner” card,  it is most certainly a step on the ladder to miles and points success. While the Venture X offers statements that make up for the annual fee, having a $395 annual fee still makes this card a little trickier to get than something like the Chase Freedom Unlimited® or another “starter card.” So, if you’re looking to take your travel game to the next level, the Venture X most likely provides the perks you’re looking for: lounge access, Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, anniversary bonuses, and so on.

  1. The Frequent Traveler

By now, you’ve certainly heard us call the Capital One Venture X Card a “keeper card.” If you’re a frequent jet-setter, like pretty much everyone on our team, you’ll want to keep this card in your wallet. Mike’s favorite thing about the Venture X card is the flexibility of its miles. You can transfer them to airlines and hotels or use them to offset ANY travel purchases. Here’s how he’d use the 75,000 miles from signing up:

  • Use 25,500 miles for round-trip flights from the U.S. to Oslo, Norway. Book anywhere and find the cheapest option!
  • With 50,000 miles left, book a $50/night downtown Oslo hotel for a week, costing 35,000 miles
  • Use 4,300 miles for a $43 round-trip airport train ride
  • Still have 10,000+ miles? Save them for your next trip!

Needless to say, The Venture X makes booking a free trip super easy, mainly because of its super-duper-amazing-wonderful statement credits (oh, and flexible transfer partners).

  1. The Perks-Loving Traveler

Let’s be clear. The Capital One Venture X Card does not have a shortage of extras. We’re talking:

  • Access to Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass Lounges
  • Global Entry or TSA PreCheck
  •  $300 Travel Credit Annually
  • Anniversary Bonus of 10,000 Miles
  • And that’s just the start…

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is one of our favorites because of its point flexibility with transfer partners (among other reasons). But, the Venture X is the perfect accompaniment due to its luxury benefits. If you’ve flown business class after sitting in an airport lounge for a few hours prior to that flight, you’re likely ruined. What I mean is — you’ll now want to travel like a king every. single. time. Holding the Venture X is step one, friends.

Who Should Not Get The

Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

?

Here’s a good rule of thumb:

You probably shouldn’t own a credit card if you: (1) have a bad credit score, (2) are a non-U.S. resident (for this particular card), and (3) cannot control your spending. If your credit score is below 700, you'll need to improve it before applying for travel credit cards, as approval for the best ones, like the Venture X, is unlikely.

Be honest with yourself: if a new credit card will tempt you to overspend, it's best to avoid it. Credit cards are crucial for earning miles and points, but they require responsible use.
