Two Air Canada passengers were apparently escorted off a flight after refusing to sit in vomit-soiled seats from the previous flight… just, EW. After being publicly shamed, the airline has finally reached out to apologize 🙄 Read more about it here!
Good morning from Kampala, Uganda!
Before we get into the good stuff, I want to give a quick shoutout to Wilson, our resident Ugandan Daily Drop reader. I enjoyed meeting up to talk about travel and life, and I learned a bunch more about his beautiful country of Uganda. 🇺🇬
And on that same note, I just want to tell you: If I come to your country or city OR if you WANT me to come to your country/city, please let me know.
I always love meeting up with new friends around the world, and I’d love to hang out with you.
But back to the travel hacks:
✈️ Aeroplan offers a 25% discount on flights
🏨 Choice Privileges: earn 8,000 bonus points (multiple times)
💳 [Targeted] offer to save $$$ on Alaska Airlines flight
✈️ Aeroplan offers a 25% discount on flights
Aeroplan is one of our favorite programs here at Daily Drop. With dozens of partners, solid award rates, and stopovers for only 5,000 extra points, it’s hard to beat as a loyalty program.
To make things sweeter, they’re currently offering a 25% discount on certain award flights, but with some serious limitations…
Here’s the deal:
Save up to 25% on Aeroplan flights operated by Air Canada when flying to the following:
Within Canada
To/from the U.S.
Mexico
Caribbean
Costa Rica
Belize
Panama
You must book your flights by September 29th
Travel can take place between September 15th, 2023, and March 31st, 2024
So yeah… the big rhino in the room is that you need to fly on Air Canada, so this discount doesn’t apply to partner awards.
However, don’t think that this only applies to Canadians…
For example, if you live in the Pacific Northwest, you could take a bus or short-hop flight to Vancouver, and then fly to Mexico City for just 12,500 Aeroplan points.
Similarly, if you live in the Northeast, you could easily hop to Toronto or Montreal, both of which have tons of flights to Mexico, the Caribbean, Panama, and more.
Of course, if anyone wants to come visit Canada (which you should), this is obviously a great chance to do so for cheap.
One of the reasons we love Aeroplan so much is that you can transfer points there from pretty much every major U.S. bank, making it a super accessible program.
Overall, this offer has a super long window for travel and can save you some serious points if you can make it work.
Make sure you book by September 29th though!
🏨 Choice Privileges: earn 8,000 bonus points (multiple times)
Unlike Aeroplan, Choice Hotels is not one of our favorite programs here at Daily Drop… It’s not you, Choice, it’s me. I just don’t get a ton of value from your program. Okay, maybe it’s you… 😬
But still, every once in a while, Choice launches a nice promo to earn some bonus points, like this one. 👇
Here are the details:
Earn 8,000 bonus points for every two stays at Choice Hotels
You must register for the offer
Valid for stays through November 6th, 2023
You can earn this bonus multiple times
Nothing too crazy going on here. But I like an offer that’s easy to understand, easy to do, and offers good value.
8,000 points is enough to book a free night at a Choice property somewhere, so you can almost think of this as a “buy two, get one free” offer.
And in case you weren’t aware, Choice recently merged with Radisson Americas, so you’ll have even more options for where to redeem your Choice points these days.
Overall, I think this is actually a great offer and could help you rack up quite a few points. If you need to top up your Choice balance further, don’t forget that you can transfer points from this card to Choice at a 1:2 ratio.
Yes, you read that right. For every 1,000 points you transfer, you’ll get 2,000 Choice points—it’s like a permanent 100% transfer bonus.
There are other good promotions going on with programs like Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt, so which one should you choose?
Well, the choice is yours. 😉 Sorry, I couldn’t help myself…
💳 [Targeted] offer to save $$$ on Alaska Airlines flight
If you’re an Alaska Airlines frequent flyer and hold cards from this bank—like this shiny metal one or its gold counterpart—check your accounts to see if you’ve received an offer for a $60 statement credit after spending $300 on an Alaska flight 👇
Several members of our Daily Drop team have seen this offer come through on both those cards, FYI.
Here are some of the deets to be aware of:
Make sure you enroll for this offer before trying to use it
Fares must be purchased directly through the airline and in USD
Your flight must originate in the U.S.
You need to purchase your flight by December 17th, but your actual flight can take place after that date
Even if you don’t have a particular trip or flight in mind, I’d still enroll for this offer just so you have it available on your account.
You’ve got like two months to take advantage of this offer and book a flight, after all, so something might just come up!
Plus, if that offer came through on this card, you could earn 5x points per dollar for airfare purchased directly with the airline—a perfect little additional bonus which feels good to stack on top of this offer!
One of my favorite ways to learn about new travel hacks is in our very own Daily Drop Lounge, an online community of DD fans and travel hackers.
Here’s a look at a post from this past week where a couple of readers were able to snag an *almost* free cruise thanks to Daily Drop. Pretty sweet…
And unlike your local airport lounge, you won’t have any trouble getting into the Daily Drop Lounge. 😉 So come join us!
I hope you enjoyed these tasty little travel hacks today. Did you have a fav?? Let me know by replying to this email!
