People rave all the time about how great of a city Toronto is. As much as I love Toronto, in my mind, it will always hold second place to the city of Vancouver. The spacious streets, the beautiful scenery just a stone's throw away, and the dankest macarons in North America - it's just a wonderful place.
Now that I've sold you on how great of a city it is, do you want to go?
What if I told you that you could get hundreds of dollars of free cash if you book a trip to Vancouver? Now do I have your attention?
I thought so...
Let me tell you about StayVancouver. This promotion is offered a few times every year and awards you free money (usually in the form of prepaid gift cards) for booking hotels in Vancouver during certain timeframes.
The gift cards range from $50 to $125 per night for a maximum of two gift cards per stay (though you can book a stay for as long as you'd like) for stays taking place between October 1st and December 31st.
This means that if you maximize this promo, you could get $250 for a 2-night stay. But you don't need to book top-notch hotels to get great value. For example, they have hotels for around $100 per night that will give you a $50 gift card. Given the absurd hotel prices in recent months, $50 per night is nothing to scoff at.

Is this deal worth pursuing?
If you were already planning on going to Vancouver, then yes. If you are now planning on going to Vancouver after reading this, then also yes. Having taken advantage of this promo myself in the past, I can guarantee that it's a great way to save money in an otherwise expensive city.
I treat prepaid gift cards like cash because you can use them for anything. But in some instances the hotels will offer you the alternative of just reducing your room rate by the same amount instead of giving you the gift card, making it literally just cash.
Furthermore, since you can use this promo up to three times, you could theoretically save as much as $750 on 6 nights of hotel stays if you play your cards right.

🏨 Up to 12% cash back on IHG hotels

So the news I shared yesterday regarding IHG was pretty disturbing... Thankfully, the promo I shared right afterward made up for it. Well, it seems that the people needed a little more incentive to trust IHG again, so they've launched ANOTHER flash sale.
This time the sale is for 35% off for hotels in Japan and Micronesia. The structure is similar to what I shared yesterday, but with a higher discount and a more flexible booking policy.

And here's the fine print:
- Members can get up to a 35% discount on certain properties
- Non-members only get 25% off the normal rate
- Stay must be booked between September 29th and October 6th
- Valid for stays between October 6th, 2022, and March 31st, 2023
As you can see, the sale actually hasn't started yet. So be careful not to book your stay until 9/29 if you want to benefit from the promo.
But that's not all...

This level of cashback is definitely not common when it comes to hotel bookings. Let's break down just how much you could save by stacking these offers.
Let's say you have a hotel that costs $100 per night normally. If you're an IHG member, this rate would now run you $65 per night. If you book through Topcashback and receive 12% back, that takes it down to $57 per night, meaning you're getting an overall discount of 43% from the standard room rate, which is absurd...
Maybe more hotels should get hacked in the future if this is the kind of thing they'll do to make up for it... Just kidding, that would obviously be bad... 😬 But, I mean, 43% is sweet...
There's no firm date on how long the cashback deal will last, so make sure you book as soon as the 35% promo begins if you want to take advantage of both. The cashback rate does vary by each specific brand, so be sure to read all of the fine print before solidifying any bookings.

✈️ Southwest gives every passenger a free ukulele

Southwest has always had the reputation of being the fun guy at the party when it comes to US airlines. Their flight attendants sing songs, their CEO flies in economy just like the rest of us peasants (to be fair, Southwest only has economy seats), and they offer tons of flexibility when it comes to booking with rewards or cash.
This week they decided to take that reputation to a whole new level by giving every passenger a free ukulele and 20-minute ukulele lesson on a flight to Honolulu.
That's right, every single one of the 100+ passengers boarded the plane to find a musical instrument in their seat.

This stunt was part of a collaboration with Guitar Center, a large musical instrument retailer. I can't decide if I love or hate this. The musician in me loves the idea of spreading the joy of music to others. But the traveler in me just wants to board my flight, put on my headphones, and binge Sex & The City in peace (I can be such a Miranda sometimes).
