My Take

The Venture card is great for so many reasons, and could easily be a one-card wallet solution. I recently signed up for this card and couldn't be happier with the benefits. Not only does it earn 2x points on any purchases, but it has a low annual fee and a high welcome offer. But redeeming points is where this card shines, since you can use Capital One Miles to directly offset any travel purchases, even with third-party travel agencies like Expedia, etc. If you want to get extreme outsize value for your miles, Capital One still has a robust set of transfer partners to book luxurious first and business-class flights, too. Low annual fee, high earning rates, flexible redemption options; this card truly has it all!

The Capital One Venture has awesome perks including Global Entry, a huge signup bonus, and Lounge Access until the end of 2024. Plus the card is metal and looks beautiful! Would highly recommend.

This card will almost always be in my credit card line up. Global Entry is a great perk, 2x on everything is great, and paired with the SavorOne, and your SUPER golden fir airline points. I have almost 170000 thanks to this card combo, most of it coming from the Venture Card. I would recommend.

One of my favorite credit cards that pairs nicely with the Capital One Savor Card for extra reward points (Thanks to Daily Drop for mentioning this in a recent article!) - you get a nice sign-up bonus with a low annual fee. I've never faced any issues with Capital One; their customer service is exceptional, and their portal is user-friendly and easy to navigate. I adore Capital One's travel partners, arguably the best among the rest. You won't be disappointed - it's so simple to accumulate points!

I’ve been very pleased with this card. Easy to transfer points to EVA Air for first class award tickets to Thailand. Would have been 5 stars if Capital One hasn’t gotten rid of the 2 free lounge passes/yr.

We recently transferred points from our Venture card to KLM, during a 25% transfer bonus.  Before this trip, we used our $100 Global Entry refund and were able to breeze through customs on our way back to the US.  We love that we can transfer points to many different partners and if we find a good deal on a non-transfer partner (like AirBnB), we can use our Venture miles to cancel those purchases.  Benefits from our Venture have more than paid for the annual fee!

I always was a cash back credit card person. And never saw any value with cards that have annual fee. Recently I started to explore transferrable point and miles. Thank you to your newsletters I opened my first Capital One Venture Card. Applied for global entry and already got the fee reimbursed. You have very valid and useful information. Thank you.

Before I got more into the points game, this was my very first card. Their app is very user friendly. I didn’t have to keep up with the earnings because it is 2x points on all purchases. I loved this card and have had it for years. I am only a hobbyist at the points game, I work full time and have two dogs so I don’t travel as much as I’d like. This was a great card for a beginner hobbyist.

My husband and I both got in on the 75,000 point intro bonus and used it to book QSuites flights to the Maldives for our honeymoon! (Coming up early next year). Overall, I like the card, it has a nice low annual fee. I love that it comes with Pre check/Global Entry (GAME CHANGER for travel!) and I really like that you can reimburse yourself for travel using points. Good amount of transfer partners, although it would be nice if there were some more. My biggest qualm is that there aren't many multipliers and the ones there have I don't use. I have a Hilton Amex so I would rarely use Capital One for hotels and I much prefer Turo to rental cars. I wish they had a multiplier on other travel expenses like flights or car sharing services like Uber/Lyft.

My experience with this card so far has not been great. First, while they approve you for it very quickly, it took two full weeks to get to me via mail and there was no option offered for a rush delivery. So, if you want this card in a hurry, you're out of luck. Then, when it finally arrived and I used it to pay some bills and I hit the $4K bonus level in one day, they security locked it.  OK, that's fine and not unexpected. It should be easy to unlock the card, right? Nope. In their app though you can't verify that transactions are legitimate - they just immediately lock the card. The problem got worse when they were unable to verify me via text messages (despite me giving them both my numbers), so I had to upload my ID documents and I'm currently waiting up to 10 business days for them to verify my identity and the card is locked. This may be a great card from a points earning perspective, but Capital One as a company has some truly terrible policies and 2015-era technology that means their customer service can't do anything to help you. On the plus side, the card is metal and looks nice.

I have had this card for at least 15 years! We have used our redemption points for numerous hotel stays and flights. How to make the most of your

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

When it comes to Capital One Miles, the best way to maximize your miles is to redeem them with travel. And to take it one step further (because *ahem* this is Daily Drop), the Venture Card will let you pay for any type of travel with miles. Yeah, you heard me right — ANY type of travel.

[.dontreco] We don’t recommend: Turning your Capital One Miles into cash [.dontreco]

With a Capital One rewards card, you earn cash back or miles on every dollar you spend. The amount you earn varies based on the card and how you use it. However, this method simply doesn’t provide the best value.

[.sometimesreco] We sometimes recommend: Booking through Capital One’s portal [.sometimesreco]

Booking travel through Capital One lets you redeem miles at 1 cent each, but you won't earn extra rewards or elite perks. It's better to book directly and then use your miles to cover the cost.

[.alwaysreco] We always recommend: Redeeming your miles for travel [.alwaysreco]

The bottom line is — if a flight or hotel room can be bought with cash, you can use your miles to book it. You can redeem your miles at 1 cent each for travel purchases made in the last 90 days on your Venture Card. And, there's no minimum amount needed. This means you could redeem for airlines, hotels, rail lines, car rentals, limousines, buses, cruises, taxis, travel agents, and more — literally anything in your wildest dreams! Taking advantage of these $750 worth of credits is what makes the Venture Card (and its big brother) so freaking awesome. By redeeming your miles for travel, you’ll absolutely maximize their value.

But how can I actually transfer my Capital One Miles?

Transferring your Capital One Miles is a super simple process. Just follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Capital One account online or via the app.
  2. Go to the credit card account with the miles you want to transfer.
  3. Click "View Rewards."
  4. Select "Convert Rewards to a Capital One Miles Transfer Partner."
  5. Follow the prompts.
  6. Click "Transfer Miles" next to your chosen partner.
  7. Enter your loyalty program number and agree to the terms.

And you’re on your way! ✈️

The Best Complementary Cards

American Express® Gold Card

Why? Speaking of “keeper cards,” the Gold Card most definitely falls into that category. Many travel experts would tell you the Gold Card would be one of their only cards if given an ultimatum. Pairing the Gold Card with the Venture Rewards Card is a solid strategy for maximizing rewards on everyday spending and travel. The Amex Gold card comes with 4x miles on dining at restaurants worldwide (on up to $50,000 in purchases per calendar year, then 1x points for the rest of the yearand U.S. supermarkets (up to $25,000 per year, then 1x after that), making it ideal for foodies and grocery shoppers. On the other hand, the Venture Rewards card earns 2x miles on every purchase, providing a way to rack up travel rewards on all other spending.

By combining these cards, you can optimize your rewards: use the Amex Gold for dining and groceries to earn significant points, and the Venture Rewards card for everything else to earn consistent miles. Plus, the Venture card offers flexibility with its miles redemption, including the ability to offset travel purchases or transfer miles to travel partners. Now, onto the Amex Gold card. Yes, it has a $325 annual fee (rates and fees), but stick with me. You're getting up to $120 in dining credits and another $120 in Uber Cash (To receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible American Express Gold Card must be a method of payment in your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States. Effective 11/8/24, an Amex Card must be selected as the payment method for your Uber or Uber Eats transaction to redeem the Amex Uber Cash benefit.) – Basically, its credits outweigh its annual fee. So...it's paying for itself. Girl math. 💅

Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card

Why? Pairing the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card with the Capital One Venture Rewards Card is a brilliant strategy for maximizing both cash back and travel rewards. Here's why: The Savor card is fantastic for food lovers and entertainment seekers, offering 3% cash back on grocery stores (excluding Walmart and Target), dining, and entertainment, and 1% on all other purchases. This makes it perfect for those who frequently spend on eating out, attending events, or stocking up on groceries.

Meanwhile, the Venture Rewards card earns a flat 2x miles on every purchase, making it a versatile option for all other spending. This card also offers flexibility in redeeming miles, whether it's erasing travel purchases or transferring miles to travel partners. By combining these two cards, you can strategically use the Savor card for dining, entertainment, and grocery spending to earn high cash-back rates. For all other purchases, you should use your Venture card. This dual-card approach not only maximizes your rewards across different spending categories but also gives you the flexibility to enjoy both cash back and travel benefits, making your spending work harder for you.

The Beauty of a Low Annual Fee

One obvious reason we love this card so much is because of its super-duper low annual fee (as mentioned earlier). Brendan actually reviewed seven of his favorite cards with super low annual fees, including the Venture Card. Check out that video here 👇

Who Should Get The

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

?

  1. The Miles and Points Beginner

Are you just getting started with the miles and points game? At Daily Drop, we love to recommend the Venture card as a solid beginner option. Not only does it have a manageable annual fee, but its earnings from everyday spending are top-tier. There’s actually a little thing called the Credit Card Ladder. Brendan does an excellent job explaining it in this YouTube video. But here’s the quick version: When you start on your miles and points journey, you might not have a single open account or even an existing credit score. This was me in 2022. Because life isn’t fair sometimes, you have to start with baby credit cards and work your way up to the big boys (i.e. The Venture X, The Platinum Card® from American Express, etc.). At the start of your credit card quest, the Venture card is certainly a step on the ladder to miles and points success. This card comes with a few additional travel perks so without further ado 👇

  1. The Twice-A-Year Traveler

Let’s face it — we can’t all travel around the world hopping from hotel to hotel (as much as we’d love to). But, we can maximize PTO for some pretty incredible trips. And when it comes time to book said trips, the Venture card is your BFFGT (best friend for great travel). Did we just do something there? Anyways. Let’s start with the welcome bonus. With the Venture card, you’re earning 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months of account opening. Okay, so that’s super solid. In addition to those beautiful Capital One miles, you’ll also be given a travel credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® and you’ll get two complimentary visits to Capital One Lounges yearly. If you only traveled twice a year, you could easily stretch those miles for multiple trips, and relax comfortably in lounges on said trips, making the Venture Card worth keeping around, wouldn’t you say?

Who Should Not Get The

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

?

Here’s a good rule of thumb: You probably shouldn’t own a credit card if you: (1) have a bad credit score, (2) are a non-U.S. resident (for this particular card), and (3) cannot control your spending.

If your credit score is below 670, you'll need to improve it before applying for travel credit cards, as approval for the best ones, like the Venture Card, is unlikely. Be honest with yourself: if a new credit card will tempt you to overspend, it's best to avoid it. Credit cards are crucial for earning miles and points, but they require responsible use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I upgrade my Venture Rewards Card to the Venture X?

If you've had your Venture Card for at least a year, you might be eligible to upgrade to the Venture X. To check, call the number on the back of your card to speak with an agent or sign into your account online to view available offers and upgrades.

What is the difference between Capital One Venture and Capital One Venture One?

They both provide travel rewards and 5X miles per dollar on hotel and rental car bookings through Capital One Travel, and the key differences are their annual fees and rewards rates. For instance, the VentureOne has no annual fee, while Venture charges $95 per year. The Venture earns 2X miles per dollar on all purchases, whereas VentureOne earns 1.25X miles per dollar.

Does a Capital One Venture card get you into airport lounges?

With the Capital One Venture Card, enjoy two complimentary visits per year to Capital One lounges and over 250 Plaza Premium airport lounges until December 31, 2024. Afterward, you can access Capital One lounges for $45 per visit.

Does Capital One Venture cover TSA?

Yes, the Capital One Venture covers TSA PreCheck in the form of a statement credit ($120 every four years).

How do I get the most value from my Capital One Rewards?

Redeeming your miles for travel usually provides the best value, but there are other ways to use them. The Capital One Travel Portal is also a valuable way to use your miles.

Is it worth it to get a Capital One Venture Card?

This card is certainly worth it, especially if you can accumulate enough rewards to justify the $95 annual fee. The perks include travel insurance, a credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, and invitations to exclusive events. Additionally, spending $4,000 in the first three months earns you 75,000 miles, which can be redeemed for $750 in travel.
